Locally owned for 36 years, bedfellows specialty shop opened for business in 1976. Two Tallahassee women created a local niche market Headshot 2012-7offering fine linens, home accents & gifts. In 2011,  Gina Proctor purchased the shop and moved it to the current location at 1495 Market Street in the district. Gina believed in the market that existed and wanted to grow the business to the next level.  Continuing with the loyal and strong customer base developed through the years, a younger customer also needed to become the target audience. Gina had a vision to bring in new products, all while maintaining the superior quality and uniqueness the original owners started.

The bedfellows name has a fine reputation both in the marketplace and with vendors, so that made for a smooth transition . The shop is embracing social media marketing including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and coming soon is an e-commerce website. By utilizing Twitter, bedfellows hopes to attract the younger audience as well as the elusive male shopper. Bridal registry, bridesmaids and groomsmen gifts along with wedding favors are available.

Gina is a wife and mother of two young children and cherishes her time with them. Gina balances her professional career where she is hands-on in the shop several days each week.

Gina has been named to the  Cinda b Design Advisory Board. PRESS RELEASE 04052013

On Thursday, October 3, 2013, we were thrilled to host Cinda Boomershine, Atlanta-based founder and designer of the cinda b line of handbags, travel bags, totes, and accessories, for the special shopping event “brunch & bags with cinda b.” Cinda spent the day greeting shoppers as they browsed the collection, entered to win giveaways, and enjoyed mimosas and a light brunch.

Well known throughout Tallahassee, bedfellows is honored to serve celebrity “locals” as loyal customers, including Ann Bowden (wife of  famed FSU football coach Bobby Bowden) and Jane Marks (Mayor John Marks wife).  The staff even received a visit from Governor & Mrs. Rick Scott.

We would say our store is most famous for its smell…

When you ask most people what they love about bedfellows, it is how it smells. We have  even been told by people they like to buy things because the “bags” smell so good!
