On Thursday, October 3, we were thrilled to host Cinda Boomershine, Atlanta-based founder and designer of the cinda b line of handbags, travel bags, totes, and accessories, for the special shopping event “brunch & bags with cinda b.” Cinda spent the day greeting shoppers as they browsed the collection, entered to win giveaways, and enjoyed mimosas and a light brunch. She also took a few minutes to speak with us about this fall’s trends, her advice to aspiring fashion designers, how she balances work and motherhood, and—of course—what’s in her cinda b handbag.
What trends are you seeing this fall in women’s clothing and accessories?
Bold colors. We do a lot of trend forecasting when we design our patterns, and all of the colors in our new pattern, Amore, are on-trend for this fall. We’re seeing a lot of rich red, deep burgundy, purple, orange, and mustard.
Tell us about the process of making a cinda b product.
We start with designing patterns. I get a lot of inspiration from travel, and from vintage design books. Our styles are also based on trend analysis and what customers tell us they want. We start with a paper design, then it goes into our computers, then we sample it, and finally it goes into production.
Any advice for aspiring fashion designers?
Chase your dreams! Go for it! If I can do it, you can do it, I always say. Beyond that, write a business plan and do your research.
You’re also mom to 16-month-old Belle. How do you balance work and motherhood?
I have an amazing husband [artist Mark Boomershine], we have a great family, and she goes to preschool at the church, and all of that helps. She hangs out in my office when she needs to, and throws things. Actually, I’d love to blame the mess in my office on her, but I really can’t!
What’s in your cinda b handbag?
My cinda b continental zip wallet, my phone (with cinda b case!), hand sanitizer, Altoids, and lip gloss.
